Do you reckon in that might be a open market for selling firewood over the Internet or would shipping be prohibitive? Question:
I search the Web and I could hardly find any ecommerce website selling firewood. That shows to me that inhabitants do not find it to be a viable online business for the following reasons:
1. There is zilch unique near firewood. What will make your firewood special compared to the firewood one can buy from their local store?
2. Prohibitive shipping. Shipping will be deeply expensive. Why buy over the Web firewood where you recompense $100 extra for shipping alone?
But there are products where on earth shipping is also expensive such as furniture and beds, but in attendance are ecommerce sites doing them profitably mainly because nearby is value and individuality to their product - elements that a firewood will not have. A firewood is simply that, a firewood.
3. Regulations on the sale of firewood.
Answers:
You could sell anything over Ebay... if folks will bid on human and animal souls or french fries, I'm sure they'd bid on firewood. And if you've got an narrative selling other things, then it's not close to it's gonna cost you anything else.
Well, yes and yes. :) You could use the Internet for selling firewood, however it would not engineer sense to try to ship firewood anywhere. Many local businesses use the Internet to service and communicate with their local customers. Just set expectations almost delivery nouns and times.
I used to work for USDA Plant Protection and Quarantine. Too much risk of sending bugs from one state to another and turning them loose where on earth they'll take over, which vehicle you would first need to de-bug every shipment and return with a certificate of such in the past shipping - not cheap. plus the cost in shipping substance, and I can go down to Home Depot or 7-11 to return with it for a pretty low price - it just would not be profitable.
It a good model, but I think that shipping would be opening to much.
In Michigan, it is off the record to bring wood from one city to another because of an Emerald Ash Borer, a bug that lives in the wood and contaminates other live trees and later kills them. Im pretty sure something close to this would prohibit the sale of wood to confident places or something. You may have to group certain guidelines.
Firewood - unless in attendance is some unique point to your product like a scent or color that it emit when burned, is a local product. Just ask at the post office or any other shipper, how much they would charge to ship a few lbs. Then amount out how much you would have to charge to cover that shipping cost plus the cost of the firewood and a profit edge.
Then you run into problems mentions above - prohibitions due to tree diseases and pests.
