I want to start doing my companies payroll manually, but Im still not sure the deductions I enjoy to take out of check and how you amount out how much. I live in California. If anyone could please speak about me what deductions I hold to take out and how I digit out how much to take out. gratefulness
Most payroll is very soon done by computer.

I really have to recommend that if you do not know what deduction have to be taken out and how you digit it out that you do not get into this business.

It is importantly specialized and if you screw up you will be sued. SUED, BIG TIME!
I can read why you may not want to use software like QuickBooks especially if you don't hold that many workers, but sometimes paying that extra money for it will help you stay surrounded by compliance with not one and only State Regulations but also Federal ones as well. As you can see within the previous post there is plentifully you have to know to do payroll.

Answers:   I agree with both answers so far. You can contact the state and the IRS for guides on how to process payroll, but if you miscalculate deduction, file the paperwork incorrectly or forget a stipend deadline for your taxes, you can really be looking at a huge penalty from the taxing agencies. It's really worth a couple of hundred dollars per year for a software that will hang on to you updated on the tax law, help you record (and remember to pay and file) your taxes while still letting you control the creation of the paychecks.

But, if you must know, within CA you will have to subtract:

State Income Tax (varies per employee)
State Disability (.8% for 2008)
State Unemployment Insurance (varies per company)
CA Employment Training Tax (ETT) (.1% for 2008)
Depending where your business and personnel are, some cities in CA own local taxes. (varies per city and employee)
Federal Income Tax (varies per employee base upon W4)
Employee and Employer paid Social Security Tax (12.4% split evenly between hand and employer paid)
Employee and Employer paid Medicare Tax (2.9% split evenly between hand and employer paid)
Federal Unemployment Tax (either .8% or 6.2% depending upon your timely and adequate costs of State Unemployment Insurance)

Some of these taxes have wage edges where you single have to calcuate the toll up to a certain amount of wages. Also, reliable pre-tax deductions (i.e., 401(k) or some vigour insurance plans) will lessen the amount of some of the taxes calculated.

You will also need to remember to do:

New Hire Reporting
Worker's Compensation Reporting and payments

Remember that if your business is within CA, but you have body that live in other states, you will also enjoy to pay the taxes contained by those states.

Also, you will have to profile quarterly and annual tax returns for both CA and the IRS. These include:

Federal 941 (or 944 as instructed by the IRS)
Federal 940
CA DE-6
CA DE-7
W2
W3

If you contact the IRS and your state elected representatives they both will have an employer guide as to what withholdings are required.

It isn't hard, especially if most of your body have regular hours, and so regular deductions that don't usually progress from week to week.
