Answers:   First, I'd like to insist on you that youshould always negotiate what you are getting rewarded prior to doing any work and especially prior to turning over any work. If you do not then you own no power to negotiate.

I cannot fault you though. When I graduate I was working at a significant firm and picked up a side job designing a residence. I estimated that I would inevitability ten sheets of drawings to doccument a decent design a contractor could build from and the building department would issue a certification for. I was a moment or two eager to hold something of mine built and charged by a rule of thumb of $200 per sheet which the client eagerly permitted, since that is amazingly cheap here. In the end I spent hundreds of hours of work on the project, and the house be built. The money was not worth adjectives the effort but the reality that I had designed the house and it get built was.

I'd articulate as a rule of thumb if yopu are providing full design development doccuments and not only a schematic design, that you could negotiate the fee as etither a portion of the assumed construction cost, if you know it. The architects fees may be something resembling 10% of construction costs for small projects. The schematic design phase can be 10% of the Architects fees and the Design development can be another 20%.

Of course the easier path of estimating your billing is to know how many hours it will run you to do the work, or in your satchel how long it has taken you, and charge an hourly rate that you are glowing with. Where I am work, we may bill $75 / hour for a Junior designer. About 1/3 of this go to pay the human being as income. The rest goes toward robustness insurance, liability insurance, rent, other bills, other support personnel (Admin) and of course company profit. This is referred to as overhead. If adjectives you have to do is recompense yourself for the number of hours of work and pay for your own medical and dental watchfulness and get enought profit so you can own some savings, consequently you can reduce this hourly rate greatly.

I hope this help you find a way to charge for your work.
