First stale, good luck beside your new project! Being a small business owner can be very rewarding. Even if the money isn't any better than in the past, you will get a great sense of enjoyment from being your own boss.

I've be a health insurance agent since 1985 and will do my best to answer your examine.

COBRA is often more expensive than a form insurance plan that you can get on your own. This assumes that you and your family connections are healthy and can qualify medically.

The key advantage of COBRA is that you cannot be turned down for it. In most instances you can hold it for 18 months. After that you will need to find other coverage.

This brings up the big disadvantage of COBRA. You can't hold it beyond a certain time of time. Unless COBRA is significantly less expensive than a comparable plan, you should look into getting a plan that you can save until you qualify for Medicare. Even if you are healthy in a minute, you may not be healthy within 18 months when your COBRA ends.

In my state of Connecticut, it is cheaper to purchase an individual health insurance plan as challenging a group insurance plan. However, the reverse may be the case surrounded by your state. You should check into both kinds of plans.

I've put together a index of links to Insurance Departments:

I suggest that you check with your state's insurance department and see what plans are offered surrounded by your area.

Good luck.
