You can either buy an existing or start from gash.
Depending on the size of the property, # of rooms, pool etc, you may need huge liability insurance and permit in the`area.
If you create a retreat near a theme, you enjoy the possibility to host groups from all over the world.

Anything from Yoga, Organic, Holistic, Religious, Hunters, Weddings, etc can work.

Even if it is surrounded by the middle of nowhere, "if you build it, they will come"
There is no "best" place. You can fail anywhere.

Touristy areas, the property will probably be reasonably expensive.
In remote locations, you can buy a huge amount of property and build an empire. It depends what your business plan is and your goals and available funds.

If you singular have a few rooms, you might clear a few bucks, but not get rich. Be natural. Weekends will usually be busier than weekdays, and there will be a restraint to what you can charge.

Being able to host weddings next to a nice setting and able to accomodate groups can be exceedingly rewarding.

What country, or piece of the country are you in?

Do you own a property already?

How much time/dollars do you want to invest?

If you live in a relatively large city, you can usually find suitable historic/scenic neighborhood properties to start next to. The cost of renovation is always elevated, even if you do the labor yourself. Then you have to look for customers. How are you going to attract guests? Are you going to serve meal? It sounds like a toy subject matter would work for you, and a gift shop. All of these bring up zoning and code question. We have friends who are honourable at it, and others who tried and gave up. As will adjectives types of business, it's all just about location.
