Why not ask local council or shopping mall if you can play a short free see . That would get you a bit of free publicity and more widely set

Go round record and music shops contained by your area asking put put up postcards or posters. Even business cards to give notice in pubs and clubs. (When you give, drop one on the table).

By all vehicle go the internet route via social websites (MySpace, Bebo etc) even put up your own website beside contact and gig details (Like this one: http://www.strangers.org.uk ) but if it's bookings you're after try asking the council to play a free one somewhere and put out your publicity.

A hundred pounds / dollars spent on bits of composition that people can hold and remember will earnings itself back handsomely.

If you're polished and in position to gig...hold a demo recorded and a few competence band photos done. Beat the streets and drop them sour at places you can play.

Plenty of musician/band finder websites on the web...and as mentioned create a belt website. vinyl stickers of your band name/logo are cheap to hold made...the more you give out the more folks stick'em somewhere. If you can do adjectives these things within the decoration...you dont need a superior or booking person...save you money.
