Good Post! I love everything about business, escpecially the marketing and selling parts. These things make or break a business. I've found masses ways to advertise my business that might comfort you. If you have a website, try SEO and PPC (pay per click from Google Adwords).
If you push your business offline, try handing out flyers, printing coupons, and yellowpage advertising).
The best method I've found nonetheless is to buy business cards and hand them out everwhere. I buy them from a place online that give the cards for free and only charges for shipping and handling. I foot these out to everyone I meet, and I exit them on cars where ever I travel (I also got a free business card holder that looks really impressive)!

I am sure someone made money as it is/was basically pyramid selling. If you be nearer the top of the pyramind than the bottom you could make money. Answers: Yes, kinda. They startedd another company using the internet called Quixtar, though they're shifting their name put a bet on to Amway (brilliant marketing scheme... if you don't sense the sarcasm within my voice...)
They were a great company at one time. The operative word person "were". It was (there go the past anxious again) a great company, but in recent years have fallen to a state that could aptly be name "pathetic".
Four years ago now, they slipped a non-compete clause into their renewal contract, essentially stating that you can't just bestow Quixtar and do something else, unless you wait 6 months from your date of resignation. And, for two full years after you resign, you cannot contact anyone within your downline within Quixtar next to the intent of showing them another "competing business" opportunity. So if you quit, and wanted to show your mom what you be doing, you can't (literally, that is one example of their position).
So simply, people who have been surrounded by their business for years were suddenly forced to sign this agreement or lose their entire business within an instant.
This really became a problem because everyone involved know their prices were mode out of line next to what similar products should cost in the souk (like $30+ for a bottle of shampoo, vs like $8 for a "glorious end" salon style shampoo in the store). Similarly, $46 (at "wholesale pricing") for vitamins, vs lower than $10 for the best vitamins you can find on the shelf at a regular store. And these are products Amway makes themselves, which should be inexpensive because there's no middleman.
Basically, a huge chunk of the IBOAI board go to Quixtar over a three year period and said "guys, we necessitate to change the pricing structure, we can't flog this stuff to customers at all". Quixtar said they'd do something, but never did. Eventually, a big part of the IBOAI board go and said "fix this now, or we're taking our entire institution and leaving". Quixtar acted like they be going to work with them, later said "You can't leave, YOU'RE TERMINATED" and after sent out slandering eMail (read: lies) about the individuals involved to try to discredit them, and try to hold on to their entire organization in the Quixtar organization.
Numerous lawsuits then, both a Federal district court judge and a State believe to be have written decision that the Quixtar arbitration process, their non-compete, non-solicitation, and other parts of their rules are completely unenforcable.
In short, Quixtar is about to own a bad year, and lose a huge chunk (read: $500m+) of their North American business.
