Question:
Over X amount, you get a attorney. Under X amount, take them to small claims court. X vary with respectively town. Call your town's small claims division and ask them the limit on the amount you can sue for surrounded by a small claim. It's $3,000 in my town, but I take it is much higher surrounded by other towns.
Scammed is nature of broad. Unless you have be seriously scammed (lost the family grow, etc.), I would not do anything and just cram your lesson. Especially with Internet scam, you will probably never find the guilty party, and if you do, it could cost you profusely of money in decriminalized fees. File a complaint if you know who did it.

Answers:
First you should contact the FBI and make them aware of the scam. Then hire an attorney. Sue the being for amount scammed and punitive damages.
